RUSSELL DAGGATT, Founder, Denny Hill Capital. Prior to co-founding Denny Hill Capital, Russ spent over seven years working with cellular pioneer Craig McCaw in various roles in Seattle and London, including serving as President and Vice Chairman of Teledesic LLC, CEO of New ICO Global Communications Ltd., and CEO and Vice Chairman of ICO-Teledesic Global Ltd.
Drawing on his experience as a mountain-climbing and river-rafting guide, Russ earlier led the merger of the top two U.S. international adventure travel companies, Mountain Travel and Sobek Expeditions. He remains an active environmentalist as a board member of Earthjustice, Oakland, CA, and American Rivers, headquartered in Washington D.C.
Previously, Russ served in various executive roles at Flying Tigers, the world’s largest air-cargo carrier prior to its acquisition by Federal Express. He practiced law with Anderson Mori & Rabinowitz in Tokyo, and Preston Gates & Ellis in Seattle, and is a member of the Washington State and California Bar Associations.
Russ is co-author, with Trenholme Griffin, of the book The Global Negotiator: Building Strong Business Relationships Anywhere in the World (HarperCollins 1990). He was selected as a “Global Leader of Tomorrow” by the World Economic Forum, and has been a featured speaker at Esther Dyson’s “PC Forum,” Bob Metcalfe’s “Vortex,” George Gilder’s “Telecosm,” and Mark Anderson’s “Future in Review” conferences and at conferences sponsored by Merrill Lynch, CE Unterberg Towbin, Credit Suisse First Boston, and Donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette. Russ has been the subject of cover features in Red Herring and Chief Executive magazines, and has appeared on CNN, CNNfn, CNBC, and MSNBC.
Russ is a Harvard Law School graduate and earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Oregon, where he was Phi Beta Kappa and awarded the Autzen Foundation Scholarship for the outstanding student in the School of Business Administration.
Russ and his wife, Gemma, have pre-school daughters. They split their time between Seattle and Sun Valley, Idaho. Russ is a member of the Woodland Park Zoo board, and enjoys various outdoor activities including mountain biking, snowboarding and mountain climbing.
